How Circa Legacy Works:

What to Expect When Capturing Your Family’s Story

Ever wish your parent or grandparent would sit down and tell their story, but don’t know how to get them started?
That’s where we come in. At Circa Legacy, our job is to make capturing your loved one’s story easy, meaningful, and even enjoyable—for both you and them.

Here’s how Circa Legacy works and what it’s actually like to be a customer.

Step 1: You Reach Out

It starts with a simple hello. Most of our customers find us because they want to preserve a loved one’s story—a gift for a milestone birthday, anniversary, or “just because” before the memories fade. You can email, call, or fill out the form on our website.

We’ll talk about what you’re hoping for, and walk you through the three service packages we offer—from just the interviews to a full custom hardcover book.

➡️ Not sure which package is right for you? Visit our Custom Family Legacy Book page to compare your options.

Step 2: We Set Up the Interviews

Once you’re ready to begin, we take it from there. We’ll schedule four (or more) interviews with your loved one. We typically use Zoom to record the conversations (we can do phone calls if needed). No fancy tech needed on their end—just a device and a little quiet time.

And yes, you can absolutely send us questions or topics you’d like us to ask about! Family lore, career stories, how they met your mom or dad—we’ll make sure the big moments (and the meaningful little ones) are covered.

Step 3: We Put Them at EaseGrandma and Grandpa smiling to a video conference call that is set up on a laptop.

One of the most common questions we hear is: “What if my parents don’t want to do it?”

Believe it or not, most people are a little hesitant at first. But we’re experts at making people feel comfortable. These are real conversations—not stiff, scripted interviews. We listen, laugh, and follow their lead.

In fact, we often hear after the first session: “I didn’t expect to enjoy that so much!”

Step 4: We Write the Stories

After the interviews are complete, we transcribe and begin writing. Every story is written in your loved one’s voice, preserving their personality, phrases, and humor. We lightly shape the stories for clarity and flow, but keep their authenticity intact.

You’ll have a chance to review and suggest edits before anything goes to print.

Step 5: We Create the Book

Once the stories are finalized, we gather and retouch up to 60 photos, design the layout, and produce a gorgeous hardcover book. You can include recipes, a family tree, journal entries, or other keepsakes to make it even more special.

Your loved one becomes the author of their own legacy.

How Circa Legacy Works FAQs

Can I gift this to someone without telling them?
Yes! Many of our customers surprise a parent or grandparent with this as a gift. We’ll work with you to prepare everything they’ll need to get started.

Do they have to be a good storyteller?
Nope. That’s our job. We guide the conversation and make sure the stories shine.

Can I pay in installments?
Yes! We understand that preserving your family’s stories is a meaningful investment. We offer flexible installment plans so you can spread out the cost over time. Just let us know what works best for you, and we’ll create a custom payment plan to fit your needs.

What if there are difficult or sensitive topics in my family’s story?
Many of the most powerful stories are the ones that are hardest to tell. At Circa Legacy, we approach every conversation with care, empathy, and zero judgment. Often, people open up about difficult times because no one has asked before, and they’re grateful to finally be heard. We’ll never include anything in your book without your approval, and you’ll always have a say in how sensitive topics are handled.

What if English isn’t their first language?
We’ve worked with a wide range of families and backgrounds. We’ll do everything we can to make the process comfortable and respectful of their voice.

Every family has stories worth saving.

And once you start hearing them, you’ll be so glad you did.

Whether it’s a laugh-out-loud memory, a hard-earned lesson, or a moment you never knew happened—these stories are your family’s legacy.
